Karin Kaplan Grumet, RD, CEDRD is a private practice nutritionist in Summit, NJ. She provides nutrition counseling for eating disorders, intuitive eating, and family wellness.
I AM ME! is a book about self acceptance, not comparing yourself to others, appreciating and loving yourself and your uniqueness. It was written with the intent of starting the discussion of self love and body appreciation at an early age and understanding that the "ideal" does not always lead to joy and happiness. Written with a whimsical rhyme and a lot of reason, this book helps decrease the diet culture and body dissatisfaction in our world and embrace self love, body love and kindness. We can all use a little bit of that.

I have worked with Karin for the greater part of the past 15 years and can say— hands down— that she is one of the most influential professionals in my healing journey. Karin’s compassion, competence, and patience has allowed me to achieve a level of recovery from an eating disorder that I never imagined possible. Much of my work with Karin came from a non-diet and health at every size framework, and has given me the tools to live a truly fulfilling life with such food freedom and joy. Her level of expertise is only matched by her authentic investment in her client’s health and well being— physically and emotionally. I couldn’t recommend her enough. -I.N.
I am so thankful and lucky to have Karin on my treatment team. In the years I have been working with her, she has completely turned my world around. At the start of my eating disorder, I struggled to find the help I needed. I always felt so misunderstood and it was ALWAYS about the food. Then, I met Karin. After our first session, I walked out of the office and immediately called my mom crying to tell her that this was it- I was finally going to recover from my eating disorder after countless past attempts. Karin’s compassionate and kind demeanor combined with her in depth knowledge of eating disorders has provided me with the guidance I needed to head down the road to recovery. It is NOT about the food, and Karin has taught me that the underlying reasons and emotions that come up when struggling with an eating disorder are what really need to be tackled and talked about. Without Karin, I can honestly say I would be no where near living the life that I am now. - H.W.
I came to Karin to help me understand what I should be eating. She taught me how to reclaim pleasure and joy from food and not give food any power to control my thoughts or my behaviors. I entered her office feeling scared of being judged as I had by many practitioners in the past... but Karin held no judgement and in fact made me feel comfortable enough to open up from the start. Her nonjudgemental, non diet, health at any size approach made me take a more in depth look at myself and my behaviors in a way I never thought possible. While my work continues, I am so very grateful to have Karin there for the accountability and unconditional support along the way. - R.C.
After struggling for nearly four decades with an eating disorder, Karin has given me something I’d been searching for and had all but given up on—HOPE that I can recover. Karin’s steadfast support and encouragement, her skill in challenging me, her infinite patience, and her formidable expertise has changed my life. I am eternally grateful for her. - D.F.
I am an out of network provider. However, once payment is received I will provide you with a paid receipt (superbill) to submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. Having a diagnosis provided by a medical doctor and/or therapist could help with the reimbursement process. Please note that all insurance policies vary, therefore please make yourself familiar with your out of network benefits.
Taking everyone's individual needs into account, we will work together to create what works for you. There is no quick fix but hard work pays off. I have over twenty years experience working to help people break free from diet mentality and if you want to get better, you will and I will be there all along the way.
YES! Every RD/RDN is a nutritionist but not every nutritionist is a RD/RDN! To become a RD/RDN you must graduate with a degree in nutrition and dietetics, complete over 1200hrs of supervised practice/internship plus pass the RD exam and continue that education every year for CEUs. Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist.
As defined by its creators, Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch, Intuitive eating is a self care eating framework which integrates instinct, emotion and rational thought. It is an eating lifestyle that honors both physical and emotional health while respecting both your hunger and your body.
